You know, as far as Monday’s go, I’ve had better. Actually, yesterday started out really well. I was having a fabulous morning– getting lots of stuff done at work and I was excited about a new project I was going to start in the afternoon. I was heading home for lunch to pick up my tax info (I had a tax appt. in the afternoon.) That’s when the afternoon took a turn for the worse…

I was stopped on East River Road waiting to turn left into my parking lot when I was hit from behind, and then I was hit again. I think the babe in the Mercury Van hit me, and then a third little blue car hit the van which in turn hit me again. I have no idea– i didn’t see it coming. The impact was so much that it caused my glasses to fly off!

my poor car...

I felt pretty jarred up and my neck was hurting afterwards so I went to the ER. Thankfully, it was nothing more than an acute neck strain. I’m really sore and stiff today– my head, neck and upper back hurts, and my arms hurt like I had been lifting weights. I’m fortunate that it wasn’t more serious, and I’m glad my car did what it was supposed to– keep me safe– but now I have to go thru the drama and hassle of getting it fixed and dealing with insurance companies.

(if you look close, you can see the Mercury emblem on my bumper!)

I might be taking it easy with posting this week while I rest up a bit and catch up with work and take care of my car/insurance issues. Thanks for your well wishes and your understanding!

Take care!

As if I didn’t have enough projects started around the house, I’ve embarked on a HUGE new endeavor– Learning how to make granny squares and creating a granny square blanket. I know– seems a little lofty for a such a novice like myself, but I’m really excited about it. Right now I’m practicing and I have to admit– I LOVE it. I’m playing around with two different styles of squares that seem pretty easy (I’m still learning how to read patterns) and different color combos.

In the meantime, here are some fabulous granny square tutorials for you to check out and try!

Bonbon Cookies

I was feeling a little domestic this weekend! Since yesterday was so cold, rainy and gray, we busted out a 1979 Betty Crocker recipe book and decided to give these little beauties a try. They were super quick, easy, and quite tasty! Next time, I may have to chocolate them up a bit… 😉

Bonbon cookies
recipe taken (and slightly modified) from Betty Crocker: Baking Classics (1979)

    3/4 cup powdered sugar
    1/2 cup butter, softened
    1 tablespoon vanilla
    1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour*
    1/8 teaspoon salt
dates, buts, semisweet chocolate chips, candied or maraschino cherries (i used reeses peanut butter cups, hersheys kisses, and rolos)
    Glaze (see below)

Heat oven to 350degress. Mixed powered sugar, butter, vanilla. Work in flour and salt until the dough holds together. (If dough is dry, mix in 1 to 2 tablespoons milk.)

For each cookie, shape dough by tablespoon around date, nuts, or chosen candy to form a ball. Place each ball about 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until set, but not brown, 12 to 15 minutes.

Cool; dip tops of cookies into glaze. Decorate with coconut, nuts, colored sugar, chocolate chips, or sprinkles if desired.

yields about two dozen cookies (though the recipe said it was supposed to yield 24 cookies, I made two batches that consistently yielded 19… I suppose batch size may vary depending on the size of the candy you add inside…)

Beat 1 cup powered sugar, 1 tablespoon plus 1 1/2 teaspoons milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla until smooth and of desired consistency. Tint with a few drops of food coloring if desired.

*do not use self-rising four in the recipe

These little cookies are so versatile and depending on how you decorate them, would make great gifts!

If you get a chance, try out this recipe and let me know what you think of it!

Doctor Mouse

Mom update: Mom is doing better! (So far…) She goes back to the doctor for a check up next week to make sure she’s no longer bleeding internally, and to check out the pneumonia. I gotta be honest, it was an emotional few weeks. Moms aren’t supposed to get sick, you know?

Thank you so much to everyone for all your thoughts and prayers!! We totally appreciated it!

Take care!

It’s been another hectic week– this time, it was my mom rushed to the hospital! She has pnuemonia (we had no idea!) and a tear in her bowel that was causing her to lose (lots of!) blood. She had the tear repaired and is recovering now. Positive thoughts, prayers, good vibes and any extra good karma you may have lying around would still be very much appreciated! I hope to be back to my regular blogging schedule next week!!! Until then, take care!!

It’s been a little less than 24 hrs. since the historic blizzard of 2011 has ended. My car is finally shoveled out and the roads are fairly passable yet still kinda rough. It’s been a doozy of a few days. While I wasn’t brave enough to go outside in the snow and take pictures (hello! I’m only 5’2″– i would have been in snow up to my neck!) I do want to share some images from folks around Chicagoland and how they captured the blizzard on film…

How about 1000? Now we’re talking!!!

Coffee Love Take-Out Cup Cozy

If you’re in need of a coffee fix this morning, check out this fabulous coffee related website that’s now my new favorite:

coffee served daily 1000 cups of coffee

Here’s a little bit about Kim, and the idea behind this caffeinated blog:

I love blogging and connecting with other people, especially folks who have very different lives from my own. That was one of my favorite parts of doing Project 365, being inspired by other photographers, and enjoying their points of view on the day. I’ve been wanting to do an interactive blog for a long time, one where lots of people could participate. Last October I was with some friends in Chico (we were there for a reunion of the design department at California State University Chico, where we had gone to school over 30 years ago) and several of us pulled out our cameras to photograph our coffees before we drank them. At first I envisioned this project for a specific group of friends, but then I became more excited about opening it up, and seeing where it took me.

Coffee is a great connector. It is home, it’s international, it’s private, it’s social. It’s plain and it’s beautiful. And I drink it daily….in fact several times a day. 1000 cups of coffee seemed like to much that it would force me to photograph it in new ways, and really look at it from every angle. It would give me an excuse to learn more about coffee, and an even better excuse to make coffee dates with my friends. I have been reaching out to my friends, and flickr contacts, and everyone is delighted to participate. Just this week I started reaching out to people I don’t know…when I find a photo on flickr I love, I check out the photographer and try to guess if they’d be interested, and then write them a letter. That’s how I met Lana, an art student from Moscow, living in NYC, who has been shooting coffee for years. I’ve also had several people I don’t know send me coffee photos. It’s always exciting to wake up in the morning and see what shows up in my mailbox.

I have no idea where this will go. I am only at photo #50, and have 950 more to go. I’ve already made so many discoveries…and I expect there will be many more.
It’s been energizing and fun, and really, that’s the most one can expect from blogging and from coffee!

I am happy to have contributed a few photos to this blog– Check out day 54, day 45, and day 41.

I hope you’ll make coffeeserveddaily a stop that you’ll enjoy everyday with your own daily cup of coffee!

I am so inspired by Kim and her blog that I have decided to do my own 1000 coffee cup project. Follow my project on flickr!

Hello!!! Happy Monday!
This weekend was really really nice, despite feeling a little short. It was nice AND super productive. I bought a sweet vintage camera (Kodak Brownie Starflex) and magically acquired an old Canon film camera complete with 3 sweet lenses, a flash, and a super cool vintage camera strap!
canon film camera(thank you, Mr. Cohn!)

As I was shopping around for more vintage cameras (I’m looking for a Imperial Mark XII Flash Camera in teal) i paused to count how many I have. Twenty. Twenty cameras. I think I need help… they make pills for this, right? Now I just need to find a cool way to display them. If you have any ideas, please leave a comment– I would LOVE to hear them!!!!

In between shopping and acquiring vintage cameras, I added six 8″x8″ oil paintings to my etsy shop.

I am so in love with these paintings. I hope that they find a good home (I need the space for all the new paintings I am working on!)
